About Richard Long

profile pictureSince 1972, Richard Long has been creating fine portraiture and timeless wedding images for clients in Wisconsin and Minnesota.  This award-winning photographer is widely known for his sophisticated, classic portraits and his large variety of wedding image styles.

Rick is best known for his wedding photography.  His professional career began in the summer of 1972 when two former high school classmates asked him to be the photographer at their wedding (and the couple, Sue and Pat, are still married).  One pair of satisfied clients led to others, and since that time, Rick has photographed more than 800 weddings in Wisconsin and Minnesota.  Several years ago, Rick began photographing second-generation weddings, where a satisfied wedding client will contact him to photograph her son’s or daughter’s wedding!  His experience and attention to detail set him apart from the competition, and ensure that his wedding schedule fills well in advance for the most popular months.  His photography covers a range of styles, including contemporary, traditional, photojournalistic, black-and-white, and environmental.  Why so many styles?  Rick explains, “Wedding clients today are looking for variety–not just a single style of photographs.  They know our reputation for making lots of creative, fun wedding images, and for making the picture-taking process fun for the client, too.”

In the studio, Rick’s offbeat sense of humor quickly puts nervous portrait subjects at ease.  “Many clients tell me that they were dreading their portrait session when they came in, but ended up having fun.  That’s my goal when I’m making photographs,” he says.  “If the subjects are relaxed and enjoy the experience, they’ll like the results.”

Rick’s photographs have been selected for advertisements, annual reports, magazine and newspaper articles, brochures, post cards, booklets, television commercials, posters, and even a life-sized cutout of a bride to promote an area store’s bridal registry.

An Eau Claire native, Rick holds a Bachelor of Business Administration degree from the University of Wisconsin–Eau Claire.  In addition, he makes a large investment each year in continuing education, studying advanced wedding and portrait techniques with some of the nation’s foremost photographers.

He has won numerous awards, both for his photographic images and for his marketing programs.

Rick is described by his clients as creative, organized, and reliable.  “Most of my clients either come to me from referrals from other satisfied customers, or because they’ve heard of our reputation from friends,” he says.  “I try to do something new and different with each client’s session.”
